Meet our Weploy Woman of the Week - Saire Maccani

Saire joined the Weploy Marketing Team in mid February in our bustling Sydney office.  She's looking after digital activations and offering general support to the sometimes hectic startup culture!  We sat down for a chat to discuss her experience thus far.

What was your first job?

My first job was at an American retail shop called Abercrombie & Fitch during University (I grew up in the states).  I liked it mostly for the discount and constant access to food court food ( again, I'm American, everyday is an eating contest).

What was your best job?

Difficult question!  At THE ICONIC, I found my love for startup culture, at Elliawear, I met some of my best friends.  Maybe my favourite was when I was a camp counsellor for deaf kids during college (university) in Michigan.

Who was the biggest influence in your career?

My mom!  She is the smartest, hardest working, creative human on Earth (I know, I may be a bit biased).  Making her proud in all aspects of my personal and professional career drives me to succeed.

What would your ideal job be?

I want to continue my career in the digital marketing space - it's so much fun!  I also plan to continue to pursue my personal projects: Creative writing, painting, art collecting and hopefully one day, a podcast!

If you could have one super-human power what would it be?

The ability to organise money trees.  I would buy this light olive vintage Land Rover I drool over on my walk to work each morning.  I have a file in my phone filled with photos of it.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Please see above re: the folder in my phone full of a vintage Land Rover that is not mine.

Do you have any other skills or talents others don’t really know about?

Yes! My nanny was deaf so I've been signing since birth basically!  My first sign was, 'milk'.  I also speak French (I use, 'speak', loosely) and lived in France for a year during uni.

Name a few of your daily habits.

Apple Cider Vinegar each morning, my Rationale skin ritual (I promise this is not an ad, I'm just obsessed with their products) and CLEANING!

What publications do you regularly read?

I read a lot about innovations, e-comm trends, news and fashion articles (in my personal time). The Verge, Highsnobriety, Hypebae, The Guardian and Wired.

Can you tell us a little bit about the challenges you’ve faced trying to find employment?

Luckily I can be quite picky about the roles I choose to take.  The most important thing for me is finding the right culture.  I have a growth mindset so that's why startup culture suits me.  I like to be around smart, inspiring coworkers.  That is exactly what I got at Weploy.

Did Weploy change your situation significantly? If so can you tell me two ways it has helped further your career path?

Coming back to startup land reignited my creativity and reconfirms this is where I want to be!

Do you feel that opportunities through Weploy changed your perspective?

I feel more empowered as I get to select who to work for and when. I feel more like my own boss these days which feels amazing!

What was the vetting process like for you?

It was great!  Both Mikey and Ciara were supportive, helpful and professional.  A true representation of the Weploy team.

What was the biggest surprise using Weploy?

How much the Weploy team genuinely care about their Weployees and Weployers.  I've only previously work with recruiters previously and it's a completely different experience!

Has Weploy helped your work-life balance?

100%! It gives me the option to take time between roles if to travel if I want or work from home.
