Meet our Weployee of the Week - Laki Ahmed

Written by Sara | Sep 28, 2020 7:44:59 AM

In just a few short months on the Weploy platform, Laki has earned herself a full 5 star review and gained experience at some of Australia's largest Insurance companies. She has inbound and outbound Call Centre experience and has an ability to prioritise Customer Experience first, whilst managing high volume enquiries. She's our Weployee of the Week!

What was your first job:

Babysitting six kids under 10, at 15 years old.  I helped them with homework and came up with activities to keep them entertained for 3 hours while their parents were at work. I did this until I was 17 and finished high school. It taught me a lot about time management!

In addition to being paid, how else has your career created value in your life?

I take immense pride in helping Australians with their Insurance, especially in this difficult time. We're all doing our part to help each other and I’m happy to do my bit.

Who was the biggest influence in your career:

My mum is probably my biggest influence, not only in my work but life in general. She has always motivated me to strive for better and put my all into everything I do.

If you could have one super-human power what would it be?

Teleportation! Imagine going anywhere you please for free?

What is a typical day like for you?

I wake up every day at 7am, I get my skincare routine done before 7:20. After which I have a big cup of caramel latte and two toasts which I usually have with avocado and feta. Then I start my day at work at 8:30 till 4:30. Since we're in lockdown here in Melbourne, I make sure to get in one hour's walk at some point. I'll spend the rest of the evening catching up with friends virtually, or on a Netflix party for one till I go to bed at 10pm! Then, repeat the next day.

What would be your biggest piece of advice to your 20 year old self?

Don’t be so hard on yourself, everything works out with time.

What do you love most about working in Customer Service

I’ve always been a people person, and I enjoy connecting and interacting with others on many different levels. Naturally customer service stood out to me as a profession for which I could really leverage all my skills.

Can you tell me a little bit about the challenges you’ve faced trying to find employment?

When I first moved to Melbourne in December I was having trouble finding employment as I’m from New Zealand and didn’t really have experience working in customer service in Australia. I seemed to find that made it harder to book interviews.

Do you feel that opportunities through Weploy changed your perspective on employment?

Yes definitely, the fact that I secured full-time employment from a casual role via a mobile app is so awesome. I feel the concept is so in tune with current times.

What made you try Weploy?

I saw a Facebook ad to the Weploy website, and at first I thought it was too good to be true, but then decided to apply. Two days after applying, I was asked to come in for a group interview. Which was such a smooth and easy process, it eliminated that the intimidating interview steps.

Has Weploy helped your work-life balance?

100% it has given me the ability to pick between part-time or full-time employment.
