What was your first job:
My first job was working for a summer english second language teacher at a camp at high school. I got to paid to hang out with other kids and have great conversations so that was awesome.
What was your best job:
Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago when I worked on the David Bowie exhibition.
Who or What was the biggest influence in your career:
Probably the field Museum in Chicago. When I was a kid we would go every month to see the replica of the Egyptian tombs. I think being around people at that age in such an experiential environment was just amazing and really transformative.
What would your ideal job be?
To be honest I’m not sure at this stage. I would choose something that requires regular travel, involves art and aligns closely with community organisations.
If you could have one super-human power what would it be?
Teleportation would be pretty cool.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Trashy television. I’m going to be honest here I was fascinated by Sophie Monk season of The Bachelorette. She was the peak for me!
Do you have any other skills or talents others don’t really know about?
I did a production in high school of High School Musical. I thought at one point that I wanted to be an actress.... but I ruined all chances of that.
Name a few of your daily habits?
Coffee is number 1! Catching up on news in Chicago, watching ABC in the morning, and walking.

Can you tell me a little bit about the challenges you’ve faced trying to find employment?
It's a challenging market here in Australia. People are always looking for five years experience as a basic requirement, and treat entry-level positions as if they are highly specialised positions. There just seems to be so much competition. One of the toughest experiences I had was that I applied to a job within state government in multicultural affairs - I completely wasn’t prepared for a group interview. I remember applying for a Japanese retail position. I thought I had been really successful - we had a great conversation, I spoke a bit of Japanese. But it took them months to get back to me that my application was unsuccessful. Some of these experiences are only natural - but it can be a bit of a disheartening experience when you don’t get any specific feedback.
Did Weploy change your situation significantly? If so can you tell me two ways it has helped further your career path?
My first placement at the Startup Grind conference allowed me to utilise my skills in event production, social media and community management. It was really a great way to strengthen my problem solving and people management skills as well. I started the position as a Social Media Assistant, but eventually took on the role as a volunteer Manager, so I was managing a team of over 10 people who were volunteering the event, covering the front of house work, managing ticketing systems and all the event platforms.
Do you feel that opportunities through Weploy changed your perspective?
It has changed my perspective because of the level of flexibility I get. It also gives you the experience of security as an individual and it’s less stressful than continuously having to search for new opportunities.
What made you try Weploy?
I loved the idea of being able work across disciplines and utilise different skills. Whereas in a typical recruitment agency, they won’t ever consider you for different experiences. Down the traditional path of recruitment, you can really be taken advantage of, I remember there in the past I’ve heard about them messing with the payscale and things like that. Weploy is really different because it’s super transparent.
What was the biggest surprise using Weploy?
How much work is out there, and how much opportunity there really is!
What's the best thing about Weploy?
It’s given me more time to spend with family and friends. For instance, I was able to go on leave and travel around seeing some of Australia for a few weeks which was an amazing experience.
