Education:
I first studied politics and then went back to Uni to study psychology which is my #1 passion.
What was your first job:
I started babysitting for the neighbourhood kids when I was 12 - a job that I still do outside my 9-5 because I find hanging out with kids really connects me to a sense of wonder & whimsy with the world.
What was your best job:
My best job was working in applied behavioural analysis supporting an incredible specialist in pediatric feeding disorders. I’ve never felt more fulfilled than in seeing the profound change for the better we imparted on families lives.
What was your worst job:
I’ve been pretty lucky to love all of my jobs, but there was a time I was working three back-to-back jobs to save up for my move to Australia. My days started at 6am and went through to 11pm. I was exhausted, but worth it for the move!
In addition to being paid, how else has your career created value in your life?
I’m a keen learner, so being able to use my career as a springboard for gaining knowledge has been very valuable. There’s little I find more inspiring that being in a room with people who are smarter that me!
Who was the biggest influence in your career:
I derive a lot of influence from my Mum, who always provides sound advice, support, and inspiration.
Name one of your biggest pet peeves?
There are so many, but loud chewing drives me nuts.
If you could have one super-human power what would it be?
Photographic memory.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to read and spend quality time with all the amazing people in my life.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Taylor Swift and red wine.
Do you have any other skills or talents others don’t really know about?
I am amazingly good at the game Boggle - I haven’t lost a game in over five years.
What is a typical day like for you?
My amazing partner brings me tea in bed where I check my emails and think about the day ahead. I’m lucky enough to get the ferry to work, which is a daily reminder of the amazing city I live in as I watch the scenery go by. Work is always really varied, but a highlight is seeing my incredible co-workers. I like to wrap up the day with a walk by the beach and reading way past my bedtime.
Aged 10 - What did you want to be when you grew up?
I always dreamed of being an actress - I had a penchant for the dramatic.
If we went for a Friday arvo drink, what would you order?
I’m really vibing on margaritas these days!
Name a few of your daily habits?
I’m really into flossing my teeth :)
What publications do you regularly read?
I like to read the AFR, the NYT, and Medium articles, but I get a lot of my info these days from podcasts - such rich content in podcast land!
What would be your biggest piece of advice to your 20 year old self?
Focus on integrity and being yourself.
Was there ever a time you can recall where you became aware that your gender, religion, or the way you look has influenced an outcome (positively or negatively)
Absolutely - in my experience, navigating the world as a woman is an incredibly complex existence. I’ve had to learn from a few really hard and demoralising situations, but I’ve also had a lot of privilege.
Can you tell me a little bit about the challenges you’ve faced in recruitment or employment before Weploy?
I’m a pretty introverted person, and recruitment is an extroverts game - I have a fair bit of social anxiety, so I struggle with putting myself out there.
Do you feel that the current structure of hiring really allows you showcase your skills? Why or why not?
I think there’s a huge deficit in using the standard resume as a medium to convey a person’s worth. I think people are victim to a lot of bias in the hiring process and it can be a hard slog to find meaningful work that allows you to shine.
What made you choose Weploy?
I started out as a Weployee looking for extra work when I went back to study. When Steph and Mikey championed me for a job at Weploy HQ I jumped at the opportunity.
